Hanover, March 26, 2010: For simulation and optimization of the assembly process, TimberTower GmbH has erected a wooden test tower at the premises of Holzbau Cordes in German Waffensen. The tower is an exact reproduction of the upper 25m of the prototype timber tower which is typetested for a 1.5 MW wind turbine made by Vensys Energy AG. The assembly of the test tower will support the development of a smooth and standardised assembly process for the TimberTowers.
The test tower represents another milestone in the development of timber-made towers for wind energy plants of the multi-megawatt class. Following the type certification as approved by TÜV Nord, theory will now be put into practice. The findings made during the construction of the test tower will be extremely helpful in constructing the prototype. „The third quarter of this year will see us build a prototype with 100m hub height", declares Gregor Prass, Managing Director at TimberTower GmbH. The TimberTower will carry a gearless Vensys Energy AG plant of 100 tons.
Things are going well for the young technology start-up. „The test tower is important evidence to our clients that our concept is feasible. While the wind energy industry was smiling at us two years ago, this situation has entirely changed. We expect to start series production with prominent plant manufacturers in 2011", says Holger Giebel, Managing Director of TimberTower GmbH.
