Development history of TimberTower GmbH

We are a highly-specialised, high-tech start-up, combining knowledge of wind turbine construction with modern timber construction. Our company arose from the engineering firm founded in 2002 by graduate engineer Gregor Prass. As a specialist in the development of towers and foundations, he has been involved with every notable wind turbine manufacturer, both at home and abroad, for over nine years. He is supported by business graduate Sandro Mainusch who, as a former assistant to the financial director of REpower AG, brings with him the necessary business know-how. Our founding team is completed by graduate economist and social economist Holger Giebel, a specialist in the founding of high-tech companies.

Development work on the revolutionary TimberTower began a good four years ago. The development idea for this patent-protected, alternative tower concept is based on the obvious advantages offered by wood. The manufacturing costs of the timber tower are significantly lower than those of steel alternatives. The construction method for the TimberTower simplifies transport logistics, and the timber variant boasts a better CO2 balance than the common steel tower, which is an important ecological factor for the future.
